Mohamed Amin (1943-1996)
Photographer and front-line cameraman extraordinaire. He was
one of the most famous photo -journalist in the world, making news as
often as he covered it. He trained his unwavering lens on every aspect
of life, never shying from the tragedy, never failing to exult the
success.
He was born into an Africa at the high noon of colonial decline and by his
early teens was already documenting events which were soon to dominate world
news. He witnessed and recorded the alternating currents of his beloved
continent and beyond, projecting those images across the world, sometimes
shocking, sometimes delighting millions of television viewers and newspaper
readers.
His coverage of the 1984 Ethiopia famine proved so compelling that it inspired a
collective global conscience and became the catalyst for the greatest ever act
of giving. Unquestionably, it also saved the lives of millions of men, women and
children.
His more than 30-year career was ended by the crash of a

Ideal as a Gift to Muslims and especially to non Muslims
Among the
finest introductions to Islam
Published By Quilliam Press
This concise book is among the
finest introductions to Islam for an educated readership. Its content is
authentic, reliable, and powerfully presented -- written by an Islamic scholar,
Dr. Abdul Wadod Shalabi, who combines traditional religious training from al-Azhar
University and Western education from the University of Cambridge, where the
author received his doctorate.
Edited by Abdul-Hakim Murad (T.
J. Winter) himself a scholar of repute
It aims to accurately introduce Islam to Muslims and non-Muslims both,
particularly in wake of the recent world events.
Written about Islam from within. It seeks to show something of the
true nature of the faith, thereby challenging the accepted stereotypes which so
badly compromise the present dialogue of civilizations. By explaining the
significance of the formal practices and doctrines of the Islamic religion, it
endeavors to build a bridge over what must be the deepest yet most irrational
gulf ever to have cleaved apart two cultures.
About the Author:
Abdul Wadod Shalabi is the author of over twenty books on all aspects of Islam.
He combines a deep loyalty to his theological training at al-Azhar University in
Cairo, while having an acute understanding of the crisis of the modern world.
His studies abroad, which earned him a doctorate from the University of
Cambridge, and his prominent career in the Azhar hierarchy (he has been editor
of its journal and deputy Shaykh of al-Azhar), have placed him in a unique
position to distill and introduce Islam to multitudes raised in the West.
The Lives of Man.
Imam al-Haddad, translated by Mostafa al-Badawi. 1991.
Pages xiv+97. 216x138mm.
Published By Quilliam Press Ltd UK
A brief tour of the five lives of man:
before conception, in the world, life in the
grave, at the Resurrection, and in Heaven or Hell,
explaining the nature of the soul at each stage.
What happens after death? Who are "Munkar and Nakir?"
What will Heaven and Hell be like? What signs should we expect before the Day of
Judgement? Who is the Dajjal? When will the Mahdi appear? These and many
questions are answered, on the basis of the Qur'an and Hadith, in this
fascinating book.
Imam al-Haddad explains that every human being passes through the
"lives:" before conception, life in the world, life in the grave, the
Resurrection, and finally, the Garden or the Fire. A complete Muslim must be
aware of each of these if he is to be sufficiently prepared for eternal life.
The author lived at Tarim in the Hadramaut Valley between Yemen and Oman, and is
widely held to have been the "renewer" of 12th Islamic century.
A direct descendant of the Prophet, may the peace and blessing of Allah be upon
him, he was a noted authority of the Shafi'i school of jurisprudence, and a
writer on devotional matters, both in poetry and prose. His works have been
translated into many languages.
