Mishkat-ul-Masabih
(a Summarised Version) The Mishkat has enjoyed wide popularity in the
world of Islamic learning Since 516 AH when it was first compiled by
Waliuddin Abu Abdullah Mahmud Al-Tabrizi The Collection has been arranged Subject wise to make it easy for the common person to use it in the process of regulating ones life in the light of the hadith of the Prophet (SAW) Mishkat al-Masabih is divided into twenty-nine books (kutub) and each book is divided into several chapters (abwab). Next come the books dealing with taharah (cleanliness), salah (the five daily prayers), zakah (compulsory charity), sawm (Fasting during the holy month of Ramadhan) and hajj (annual Pilgrimage). These are then followed by other books which deal with business transactions, trusteeship and with the conditions of employment and other related legal matters in general. The books dealing with marriage, divorce, and family maintenance come thereafter and are followed by the remaining books which deal with a variety of subjects, such as food, drinks, clothing, behaviour, jihaad, etc. Each book has been given a particular title
which indicates the nature of its contents. The chapters also have titles which
indicate the aspects of the subjects being covered in the books. However, there
are only a few chapters which do not have titles.
An Explanation to the
Beautiful and Perfect Names of Allah (As-Sa'di)
Shaykh Abu Abdu-r-Rahman Nasir As-Sa'di ISBN:
0 9536476 2 5 To Allah belong the most beautiful and perfect Names, so invoke Him by them. Abandon those who desecrate His Names, they will be recompensed for what they did.? From the most noble and lofty stations of cognisance is to know the Lord, the Glorious, through His beauty. This is the knowledge possessed by the elite of this creation. All of them know Him through an Attribute from amongst His Attributes but those amongst them who have the most complete cognisance are those who have most complete cognisance are those who know Him through His perfection, magnificence and beauty. These is nothing comparable to Him in any of His Attributes, if you were to assume that the whole of creation was in its most exquisite form, and you were to try and compare their collective outward and inward beauty to the beauty of the Lord, Glorious, the comparison would be more ineffectual than a faint torch being held against the blazing disk of the sun. It is sufficient to know of His beauty that if His veil was lifted, everything that splendor of His Face fell upon of His creation would be obliterated. It is sufficient to know that all beauty, external and internal, to be found in this world and the Hereafter is from the resultant effects of His works, so what then would one think of the beauty to know of His beauty that to him belongs nobility in its entirety, strength and power in its entirety, generosity and kindness in its entirety, beneficence in its entirety, knowledge in its entirety and grace in its entirety clasother\classib Ibn
Jama'ah's The Manner in the light of above mentioned opinions of the scholars has this dignity and its excellences are not known, the need of the students to it and their hardship to follow it, which is either for shyness which prevent them from presence or the tyranny which creates in them aversion. This sort memoir for the teacher to remind him and for the student to inform him about his responsibility and which are common to the both. In this book guidelines on rules and regulations of the hostels both for the senior and the junior students. The five chapters, which cover the objectives of the book: 1. On the excellence of knowledge and the scholar (and excellence of scholar and his offspring). 2. On the manners of the teacher, concerning himself, his students and his lesson. 3. On the conduct of the student; with himself, and his teacher, and his fellows and his lesson. 4. On the methods of consulting books and which concern to it. 5. On the manners of the hostels of the educational institutions, and which concerns to it. Ibn Jama'ah places a high premium on personal
and professional qualifications of the teacher, his main responsibility being
the promotion of student welfare and advancement of knowledge. He must shun
pride and arrogance, should meet people with a smiling face, help the needy and
hold students in affection. About Ibn Jam'ah Not much else is known about his biographical details but the study of his book 'Tazkarat Ass-Same Wa Al-Muitakillim Fi Adab Al-Alim Wa Al-Muta' Allim' would indicate that he was closely associated with the teaching profession and was fully aware of academic life and work of teachers and pupils in educational institutions. It was in the year 672 A.H. (1273 A.C.) that Ibn Jama'ah completed his Tadhikrah as a guide for both students and teachers to help improve quality of their academic life and work.
